Expanded Beachside Entertaining

Our clients’ top priorities for this project were expansion, better circulation, clean updated finishes, more storage, and organization. Their new kitchen checks all these boxes and more.

  • Although our client loves the location of their vacation home, the kitchen just wasn’t meeting their needs. It was a very small space with 3 doorways off of it, limiting cabinetry layout options. The refrigerator was on the short wall, creating an obstacle as one walked from the dining room, through the kitchen to the back hall. The finishes including the drop ceiling were also very outdated.

We more than doubled the size of the kitchen by stealing the square footage from the adjacent dining room. This allowed us to put in an island that is over 10’ feet long–perfect for entertaining. There’s plenty of counter space on both sides of the induction range, and a secondary run of cabinetry at one end of the kitchen that houses a wine refrigerator.

The window of the old dining room was short and high, so nobody could take advantage of the view outside. We increased the size of that window so that it matched the size of the existing kitchen window. Now, light floods the space making a substantially larger space feel even bigger.

Our client wanted a pop of green, which we incorporated into the huge island and window treatments. This cheery hue is balanced by classic white perimeter cabinetry. Honey bronze knobs and pulls visually tie together these contrasting cabinets. Being that people with sandy, wet feet will frequent the space, a luxury vinyl plank was specified for the floors.

Storage was increased immensely, and organization was handled through several types of cabinetry inserts and accessories including a trash-pullout, utensil and cutting board pullout with magnetized knife storage, and roll-outs for pots and pans.

Utilizing such a bright, functional and contemporary kitchen will make this weekend and summer getaway a completely different experience.
