Shila and her team were an absolute dream to work with. We found Shila when we were completely overwhelmed with where to start with our recent kitchen remodel. Shila was patient, informative, and thorough with walking us through all of the details we needed to consider in planning the renovation. Shila was able to provide us options we never even considered/thought were possible. The level of detail that Shila puts into the project ensures not only that it ends up beautiful but functional as well. Our new kitchen felt like home immediately as it was completely designed with our needs and lifestyle in mind. We cannot recommend SG23 Design enough and look forward to working with them on future projects.

Top FAQs
Are you decorators?
We’re not decorators, we’re interior designers. Interior designers can do anything a decorator can do, but not vice a versa. Certified interior designers require formal education and training while a decorator does not. The principal designer, Shila Griffith needed to work for 2 years under a licensed architect after completing at least one design degree (she has two) before she could even qualify to take the NCIDQ exam.
In fact, many of the responsibilities of an interior designer overlap with those of an architect. Read our blog post on the difference between an interior designer and decorator here.
What’s your design process like?
SG23 has a streamlined process that we typically review with clients in depth as part of a Boutique Consultation. Our process is thorough, efficient, transparent and provides peace of mind since our clients know what to expect.
How involved will I be in the process?
Most of our clients don’t want to be involved with all the craziness behind the scenes and want to be as hands off as possible. It’s our job to create a design that addresses your top priorities for each space and figuring out all design details. We also handle all of the not-so-fun stuff — like showroom hopping, procurement, troubleshooting, and coordination.
We make the process as easy as possible for you—to the point where you just need to approve or disapprove elements of the proposed design.
Can I see some projects you've designed?
Sure! Check out our residential and commercial portfolios.
What’s my project going to cost?
The short answer is we don't know yet, because nothing has been designed. Various factors impact the overall cost, and each factor comes with a range of costs. However, our Full-Service Design process is structured to provide you with a clear understanding of the project cost before construction commences, minimizing any unexpected expenses. Your major projects costs will be professional fees (including your contractor), building materials and product (cabinetry, fixtures, furniture etc.).
Below are recommended minimum budgets:
Kitchen Renovation $85k+
Full Bath Renovation $50k+
Full Basement Renovation $100k+
Addition $150k+
Furnishings + finishes only $35k
What are your design and project management fees?
We create a custom proposal every project that outlines our estimated fees for your project. You should estimate that 15-20% of your overall project cost would go towards design and project management fees.
Do you help clients find a contractor?
Yes, through our Full-Service Interior Design. The success of your project is highly dependent on you have the right contractor to execute your project. You always make the final call on who you’d like to work with, but our clients tend to value our opinion since we have pretty high standards.
Do you collaborate with architects and structural engineers?
All the time! On both commercial and residential projects. If your project requires an architect or structural engineer, we can help help you find the right professional.
Before focusing on SG23 Design full-time, Shila worked at a prestigious architecture firm for over 5 years on award-winning projects and did much of the work that all of the architects did, down to structural drawings. Therefore, she has more of a handle on the construction of a building than most designers. The entire SG23 Design team also has a good rapport with builders and contractors.
